Incorporating Plant Stands and Indoor Planters in Your Home Decor
Posted by admin on November 30th, 2008 filed in HomeDecor
If you have a spacious home, the use of plant stands can be a versatile and flexible addition to your home decor. They can, of course, be used in smaller rooms too, but it is in spacious areas of a home that indoor planters and plant stands can be used most strikingly and effectively.
The combination of plants, planters and plant stands can add another dimension to your living space. The living decor, in the form of foliage and flowering plants, or of miniature trees and shrubs, can be as varied as you wish, with such a wide choice of indoor plants available. Once you combine them with both planters and plant stands, the combinations open to you are almost limitless. It can never be an excuse to say: “I can’t find any plants, stands and pots that fit in with my home decor.”
Types of Plant Stands
Once you have made the decision to use plants in the home, displayed on attractive stands and grown in decorative pots, what types of plant stands can you expect to find in the stores, whether local or online? Plant stands tend to come in a variety of materials, the more common being wood, wrought iron and other metals, and wicker. Less common, but very appealing alternative base materials, can be found in porcelain, marble, stone, and acrylic.
As you can see from the materials alone, the choice is wide enough to enable you to find a stand that complements your home decor, both in colour theme and style. From classic to ultra modern, suitable choices are there to be found. You will even find some attractive combinations of these materials in some plant stands, such as a luxuriously carved wooden pedestal stand with a marble top.
The material from which a plant stand is made is only one variable, though. The actual style of stand can vary significantly too, presenting you with many decor and plant display options. It is this great variation in size and styles that enables you to use height and shape so effectively in interior design, especially in wide open areas such as large entrance porches and lobbies, adjacent to sweeping staircases, and in spacious living areas with wide areas of bare boards or tiles.
There are several types of plant stands that can add interesting height variation to your living decor:
1. Pedestal plant stands may be designed as plant stands, or you may utilize indoor pedestals not especially designed for that purpose, but suitable and attractive nonetheless. Marble pedestals, or classic columns, can be especially appealing and luxurious.
2. Multi-tiered plant stands can be effective in adding height to your foliage and floral displays in the home. In this case, you need to be especially careful with the choice of plants, choosing combinations of plants that will best show off the shape of the plant stand. There are some interesting shapes and styles about, including a spiral staircase effect planter.
3. Hanging plant containers are also available for indoors, and these are worth considering where you want the eye to be distracted upwards rather than down.
When deciding on buying plant stands, it is best to consider the full combination of plant, indoor planter, and plant stand. If you have a vision in mind, then your home will look all the more attractive, and as you want it, when it comes to putting the three together.
Also, never forget that a plant or miniature tree can sometimes look more attractive without a stand at all; and furthermore, some planters you can find are attractive decor in their own right, and may be desirable for display with no plant displayed.

To provide a complete wildlife touch to your home settings, wood curtain rods are the best decorating items. Not only the rods add to the beauty of the homes but they also hold the curtains in a unique way. It is because of the perfect fittings of the curtains in the wood curtain rods that the curtains flutter softly and gracefully to give a pleasing aura to the rooms.
Technical specialties of wood curtain rods
The wood curtain rods are made of walnut, teakwood, mahogany, oak or other hardwood that make them durable. The rods usually have a tobacco finish and the finials of the rods are available in either small or large sizes. The wood rods are available as either smooth rods or as fluted rods. While the smooth rods are usually of 1-3/8″ diameters, the fluted rods are of 2″ diameter.
The rods in general are available in three different lengths of 4″, 6″ and 8″. These are the curtain rods for normal sizes but if it is a non-standard window frame, then you cut down the rods to specific sizes and then use them accordingly. However, if you need longer than the normal length rods, then use pole connector screws to get the necessary length.
Different types of wood curtain rods
The wood curtain rods are available in different finishes like historic white, burnished gold, natural white, weathered white, honey maple, matte black, gold, warm oak, gold leaf, lacquered natural, pewter, cherry and piano white. You can choose one of these curtain rods that will best suit the style and furnishing of the rooms.
Brackets in the curtain rods are very important, for they actually hold both the light and heavy curtains. The wood curtain rods are advantageous, as they allow the usage of different types of brackets like ring brackets, flat brackets, cup ring brackets, double ring brackets, centre support brackets, end caps, extension brackets and ceiling brackets.
The wood curtain rods are truly durable and with their variety of designs they simply give a different yet aesthetic touch to your home d

Home Decorating For Under $100
Posted by admin on November 22nd, 2008 filed in HomeDecor
People spend large sums of money to improve their homes, some even taking out expensive home equity and refinancing loans. While it’s true that putting in new floors or cabinets can cost a bundle, there are plenty of things you can do to improve your home for much less. There are 3 key areas to focus on where small improvements will make the most difference - the foyer, bathrooms and kitchen. These projects below cost under $100.00 to do and just one of the projects below can make a huge difference, but why not do all 3?
Foyer
It’s true that you only get one chance to make a first impression and the first impression people get of your home is your foyer. Has your welcome mat lost its welcome appeal? It’s time to spice up your entrance so what you hear are “oohs” and “ahhs” when people cross your threshold. If you have a spacious porch, a potted plant in a metal planter can create a pleasant atmosphere. Contemporary planters are about $10.
If you’re really adventurous, a coat of brightly-colored paint on your front door can create a splash. If you take on this challenge, it’s a good idea to make sure that the paint complements your home. For example, if your home is mostly red brick, a red door would make a dynamic look. A gallon of interior/exterior gloss enamel in red or any other bright color will set you back no more than $20.
Kitchen
When you look in your kitchen, what catches your eye first? Probably all those nifty cabinets that discreetly tuck away your dishes, right? After a number of years you might crave a different look. For starters, you might want to give them a good cleaning. This one step alone can make a difference. You would be surprised the amount of dust and grease that can accumulate on cabinets. Depending on the material that your cabinets are made of, simply removing the cabinets from their hinges and wiping them down with the damp cloth is sufficient. There are chemicals on the market, but you need to make sure that the chemicals are made for your cabinet material.
Once your cabinets are shining again, you can then add or replace knobs. Knobs range from simple unfinished versions that cost as little as $.50 to decorative insert pulls that costs around $3. With the average kitchen containing about 12 cabinets, your cost won’t go over $36.
Bathroom
Guest bathrooms are usually confined to a small space. Why not give this room a lift? You undoubtedly have a nice set of guest towels and matching accessories. These items are not necessarily cheap so unless you want to go over your $100 spending limit, you can leave those items as they are. What you can add are wallpaper trim, artwork, and color. There are numerous styles of wallpaper trim that you can choose a new look for your bathroom. You can go as conservative and as creative as you want. To complement the wallpaper trim, you can add artwork. You don’t have to go out and purchase expensive artwork. You can use your imagination to come up with some ideas. For example, a few seashells, colorful fabric, and an empty picture frame are all you need to become your own favorite artist.
If you have any leftover paint from your door, you can use this to paint a wall in your bathroom, as long as the color doesn’t clash with the other elements of your bathroom.
